does this mean its real gold?

ive heard about rubbing gold on your skin when you have makeup on and it leaves a black or a gray steak. does this mean its real gold? would that work with plated gold? it worked with my silver ring too, but with the silver ring it was a dark streak and with the gold one it was a lighter gray.

Ingredients in makeup will react with metals. Gold and silver are not active metals which means that they tend to react less than other metals. Some flute players have noted that the metal of the flute on their chin, with makeup, will turn the flute dark as well as leave a dark streak on the chin. It depends on the metal the flute is made of. Silver does tarnish,as noted on silver trays and such. Gold does not seem to react as much.
